Effie Ballew attended school in Emmett, Texas. She was baptized in the Emmett Baptist Church.

She, along with her parents, moved to Olney in 1930. She kept house and took care of her parents until their deaths. She lived for many years with her sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Leroy Hambrick until she entered Seven Oaks Nursing Home. She moved to Stephenville, Texas to be near her nephew, Charles Hambrick.

She was the family historian and took great interest in her many nieces and nephews. She was a retired housekeeper and a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Graham.

She was preceded in death by her three sisters - Ethel Hambrick, Myra Guinn and Jewel Slaughter; two brothers - Elbert Ballew and Clifford Ballew.

Survived by nephews - Charles Hambrick of Stephenville, John Ballew of Lubbock, Ronnie Slaughter of Olney; nieces - Sue Dykes of Dallas, Glenda Dolberry of Wichita Falls, Janelle Bowles of Devol, OK; Betty Rhodes of Gainesville, Elaine Bell of Odessa; Audrey LeCour of Houston; great-nephews; great-nieces.
