Gilbert S. Abler, 90, formerly of 713 Beaver St., Beaver Dam, died on Saturday, April 29, 2000, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Daniel Massie will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
Mr. Abler was born on Jan. 4, 1910, in Beaver Dam, the son of Louis and Cecelia Abler. He was married in 1958 to Verdella Veling, in Beaver Dam. Mr. Abler was a lifelong resident of Beaver Dam. He worked at the Monarch Range Co. as a press operator for 43 years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include one step-son, Robert (Judy) Rabehl, Beaver Dam; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Marion Abler, Beaver Dam; three nephews, Roy Marthaler, Beaver Dam, Donald Zemlo, Greendale, and Richard (Bridget) Zemlo, Illinois; one niece, Beverly Savage, Oshkosh; one cousin, Richard (Elaine) Tobin, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verdella, on Jan. 11, 1997; three sisters, Marie Mathaler, Lucille Schroeder, and Ruth Zemlo, and one brother, Arnold Abler.
Friends may call on Wednesday, May 3, at 10 a.m. until the time of service, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Beaver Dam. The Murray Community Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, is serving the family.
