F. BRANDT Glen F. Brandt, 64, retired salesman who had been living at Orlando,
Fla., died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon of a heart attack. He had been in good
health but had a heart condition. His death occurred at the home of a neighbor
where he had watched the televised Nation Football League championship game
between the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants. Brandt for years had been an
avid supporter of the Packers and had been referred to often as the “walking
encyclopedia” because of his extensive statistical knowledge about players and
the team. Brandt, who had made his home at 1445 No Eighth St. before renting the
property and moving to Orlando, had been a salesman for 35 years with Oriental
Milling Co. Shortly after retiring in 1960 he became associated with Vince
Hanson Realty Co. and continued in the realty field while in Florida. A staunch
Republican, Brandt had been active for a quarter of a century in the Manitowoc
County GOP, serving as the party chairman from 1936 through 1952. At times he
was a chairman of both the statutory and volunteer committees. He had been
candidate for the state senate post in the First Senate District and for the
assembly post in the First Assembly District but was unsuccessful in these bids.
Brandt was considered the “father” of the annual Brotherhood Week observance in
Manitowoc County and for years he and Mrs. Brandt were active on committees
planning and directing the February event. He had been recognized by the
National Conference of Christians and Jews, sponsors of the observance, for
launching the program in the county. Active in United Commercial Travelers,
Brandt had served as grand president of Wisconsin in 1951 and had filled a
number of posts in the Manitowoc group. He had been a president of Men’s
Brotherhood of St. Paul Methodist Church. Brandt had been a member of the Lions
Club until leaving for Florida. At Orlando he continued his UCT and Republican
Party activities and also closely followed the progress of the Packers. Born
Nov. 15, 1898, at Sparta, son of the late Fred and Jennie Angle Brandt, he was
educated at Sparta schools until enrolling at Manitowoc Business College. He
married Evelyn Schmalfeldt at Manitowoc May 5, 1928. She survives him along with
a daughter, a son, three brothers, Perc, of Manitowoc, Leland, of San
Bernardino, Calif., and Wendall, of Burbank, Calif., and two grandchildren.
