Mrs. Clara Bresler, 88?, a resident of Shady Lane Home, Manitowoc, died Tuesday
morning at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient the past
two weeks.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Methodist Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Allan McCaul will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Born Clara Johnson at Manitowoc Dec. 19, 1872, she was the daughter of the late
Peter and Clarissa Boughton. She was married to Eugene Bressler, a druggist, and
they lived in a number of cities before she came back to Manitowoc following the
death of her husband in 1905. She was a charter member of the DAR, member of the
WSCS of St. Paul Methodist Church, and a member of Eastern Star No. 196 in the
early 1930s. Mrs. Bresler served as probation officer under the late Judge John C.
Chloupek. During the early part of World war II she directed Red Cross activities
in Manitowoc County. For a number of years she made her home with a sister, Mrs.
R. H. Markham, at 534 N. Fifth St., Manitowoc. Mrs. Markham died several months
ago.
Among survivors are several nieces and nephews including George and J.D. Markham
of Two Rivers. A sister and five brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 4 p.m. Wednesday. The body
will be moved to the church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to lie in state until the hour
of service. Memorials may be sent to the St. Paul Methodist Church.
