Douglas E. Buhk, 53, of 1615 S. 18th Street, Manitowoc, died Thursday morning, May 7, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Buhk was born Feb. 6, 1928, at Two Rivers, son of the late Ned and Hilda Shambeau Buhk. He was educated at Washington High School, Two Rivers, and married Joan Metzger in 1950 at Manitowoc. He was active in the Manitowoc unit of the National Guard from 1951 to 1953 and also served with the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Buhk was superintendent of production at Holiday House of Manitowoc County Inc., starting in July of 1966. His original position was supervisor of the woodworking area and three years later he assumed the role of superintendent of productions, a position he held until his illness. In addition, he was named assistant director in the total Holiday House program about five years ago, expediting work flow, developing and designing special equipment for the disabled and supervising staff members. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Jeffrey Wheeler of Shiocton, Renae and David Schermisler of Cleveland, Wis., and Kim and Joseph Brull of Manitowoc; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Cyril Klein of Two Rivers and Carolyn and Rolland Malkowski of Albuquerque, N.M., and two grandsons, Teddy and Toney Schermetzler.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church from noon Saturday until time of service.
