MARIE MALINDA CARSTENS

Mrs. Leonard (Marie) M. Carstens age 82, formerly of 2121 Sharon Lane, Manitowoc, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Northridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2006, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg. The Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Marie was born Dec. 3, 1923, in the town of Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of the late Harvey and Martha Sampe Carstens. On Sept. 23, 1944, Marie was married to Leonard C. Carstens at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. The couple farmed in the town of Newton before moving to Manitowoc in 1987. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. John's Ladies Aid, Manitowoc Homemakers, and she was a part-time 4-H leader for several years. Survivors include her husband: Leonard of Manitowoc; one son: Larry Carstens of Newton; one daughter and son-in-law: Judy (Jim) Bieberitz of Manitowoc; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Doug) Owen of Manitowoc; Jeremy Bieberitz of Madison; two great-grandchildren: Wesley and Derek Owen of Manitowoc; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Emil Carstens of Manitowoc; Evelyn Carstens of Manitowoc; Harvey (Betty) Carstens of Florida; one sister and brother-in-law: Ruth (William) Behnke of Manitowoc; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law: Alice (Norbert) Nelson of Manitowoc; Virginia (Helmer) Hanson of Green Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by one brother: Elmer Carstens; and one sister-in-law: Evelyn Carstens. Relatives and friends may call at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newtonburg on Sunday from 4 until 7 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church memorial fund or Manitowoc Lutheran High School. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Carstens family. Marie's family would like to share a special thank you with the staff of Northridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center and Milton Behringer for all the care and concern shown to Marie during her stay at Northridge.
