LEOLA CARY

OPERATION FAILS TO SAVE LIFE OF TEACHER
Miss Leola Cary Dies Tuesday In St. Paul Hospital –Funeral Here on Friday.
Taken suddenly ill Friday morning, while teaching in the St. Paul schools, on
the last day before the holiday vacation period, Miss Leola Cary, daughter of
Clerk of Court Charles E. Cary of this city and a sister of Dr. Erwin C Cary of
Reedsville, was rushed to the St. Joseph's hospital at once, but complications
set in and she died Tuesday. The remains were brought to the Dr. Cary home at
Reedsville today and funeral services will be held from the Sacred Heart church
in this city Friday morning.
News of the death of Miss Cary, who was a graduate of local schools and taught
for a number of years in the grades of the old First ward school in Manitowoc,
was a sad shock to her many friends here. She had been suffering for a few days
from a flu attack but was able to continue teaching at the Webster school at St.
Paul. But last Friday morning her condition grew worse and she was taken to a
hospital. He brother, Dr. Erwin Cary of Reedsville, who rushed to St. Paul was
present and was advised that a throat infection had set in and finally a blood
transfusion was performed in an effort to save her life. But she sank rapidly
and passed away yesterday. Charles F. Cary of this city hurrying to St. Paul
failed to arrive before his daughter passed away.
Spent Vacations Here
Miss Cary was born September 9, 1887, and attended the grade schools and high
school in this city graduating here and then entering Milwaukee Normal school
from which she graduated and took up teaching. For several years she taught at
the First Ward school here and for the last eight years she taught in the
Webster school in St. Paul, Minn. She always spent her vacations with her father
here and with her brother at Reedsville. She was a faithful member and hard worker
in the congregation of the Sacred Heart church of this city.
Besides her father and brother, the deceased is survived by a step sister, Mrs.
Joseph McCarthy of Kaukauna. The funeral service from the Sacred Heart church here
Friday morning will be at 9:30 o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. Father Luby.
Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery in this city.
