CHARLES CENEFELT
County Farmer Takes Own Life
Cenefelt, Cooperstown, Shoots Self With Gun
Charles Cenefelt, 52-year-old Cooperstown farmer, ended his life with a shotgun
blast in a rear half of the farm home this morning, Coroner Theodore Teitgen
announced today.
Mr. Cenefelt, who has been ill for the past several years, discharged both barrels
of a 12-gauge shotgun, but is believed to have missed with the first attempt,
according to sheriff Arthur Truttschel.
The sheriff reported that Mr. Cenefelt evidently had placed the weapon against
his neck under the jaw before pulling the trigger. Dr. Teitgen said that the roof
of the hallway in which the tragedy occurred, was blown away by the discharge of
the gun.
The body was found by Mrs. Alma Cenefelt, the dead man’s wife, at 7:15 this morning
upon returning to the house after doing some chores in the barn on their farm at
route 1, Maribel.
Survivors include Mr. Cenefelt’s wife, one daughter, Marjorie of California, and
four sons, Royall, Merlin and Earl at home and Carl in the navy stationed at
Honolulu.
The body lies at the Knutson funeral home in Denmark. Funeral plans are incomplete.
