JOSEPH CHADA

Joseph Chada, 76 (above) of 923 North 18th street former Kewaunee county sheriff
and a state official at Madison for years, died last night, following a two weeks
illness.
He was born in Franklin, Kewaunee county, in 1873 and in 1898 married Miss Eleanor
Ne_tz at Bolt. When a young man he taught schools in Kewaunee county and later
operated a tavern at Bolt. He served as a town officer for several years and in
1904 was elected sheriff of Kewaunee county serving two years.
In 1923 he moved to Green Bay and later to Madison where he became superintendent
in the auto license division in the office of the secretary of state. He retired
in 1946 and moved to this city.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Percy F. L—itz of Crystal Lake,
Ill., and Mrs. Conrad Lewis of Madison; three sons, Orlando of Boulder Junction,
Wis., Harvey of Muscatine, Iowa, and Melvin of Eau Claire; brother, Adolph of this
city; two sisters, Mrs. E____ Hestermann of Manitowoc, Wis., and Mrs. Joseph Konop
of Two Rivers, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral
home, with burial in Evergreen cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home after __ p.m. Saturday.
