Ladislaus Cherney, 78, a Spanish-American War veteran, died Tuesday
morning at Veterans Hospital, Wood, Wis., where he had been a patient
since Wednesday. He had resided at 1413 S. 11th St., Manitowoc. In 1901
he married the former Anna Ginzl of Mishicot, who survives him along
with a daughter, MRs. Alex Baltos and a son, Roland of Manitowoc and
three brothers, Gustav of Mishicot, Emil of Manitowoc and Adolph of Maribel.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced Wednesday by
the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home of Manitowoc.

Funeral services for Ladislaus Cherney, 73, veteran of the Spanish
American War who died Tuesday at Wood, Wis., will be held at 2 pm Friday
at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Richard
Schmitz, chaplain of the Drews Bleser American Legion Post, will
officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The Legion will accord Mr. Cherney military rites at the grave.
Mr. Cherney , who had resided at 1413 S. 11th St., Manitowoc, was born
in Bohemia, March 14, 1878 and came to the United States with his
parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cherney, as a young man. The family
settled on a farm in Mishicot. He married the former Anna Ginzl in 1901
at Two Rivers and two years later came to Manitowoc where he was
employed as chief engineer for Kingsbury Brewery Co., until his
retirement 12 years ago.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Alex Baltos and a
son, Roland of Manitowoc; three brothers, Gustav of Mishicot, Emil of
Manitowoc and Adolph of Maribel. Friends may call at the funeral home
after noon Thursday.
