Marguerite 'Maggie' Cherney Marguerite ""Maggie"" Cherney, age 86, formerly of 1826 Pleasant St., Manitowoc, and a current resident of North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, Aug. 11, 2006, at the center. Maggie was born on Feb. 27, 1920, daughter of the late John and Lillian (Niquette) Elfner. She married Joseph W. Cherney on April 30, 1938, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1993. Maggie was employed with S.S. Kresges for 26 years, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed many hours up at her cottage in Door County with her family and friends. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law: Sharon Cisler, Denmark, and her special friend, Charlie Waniger, Manitowoc; Joyce and LeRoy Novy, Manitowoc; Joan and Roger Thielen, Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law: Joseph C. and Sheila Cherney, Randall and Catherine Cherney, all of Manitowoc; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Harold and Carol Elfner, Manitowoc, Charles (Chuck) Elfner, Capac, Mich.; Mary Elfner, Suring; Hazel Cherney, formerly of Brillion; one sister: Norma Loberger, Manitowoc; special friend: Connie Schmidt, care minister, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Maggie was also preceded in death by two grandchildren: Donald Cisler and Timothy Thielen; one son-in-law: George Cisler; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Russell Elfner, Raymond Elfner and Rita Elfner; one sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Al Markham. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at St Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at North Ridge, for their compassionate loving care and support given to Maggie and her family.
