Victor W. Cherney, 54, of 1409 Nagle Ave., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at
University Hospitals, Madison
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Glenn H. Unke will officiate with burial in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rite will be accorded Mr. Cherney by
American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88.
Mr. Cherney was born May 6, 1921, in the Town of Franklin, Manitowoc County,
son of Wencel and Mary Zeman Cherney. He attended schools in the Kellnersville
area and was graduated from Carpenters School at Brooklyn, N.Y. He enlisted in
the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942, serving fours in the Philippines as a carpenters
mate, first class. He married Esther Kasten Aug. 16, 1947, at Manitowoc. He
worked with Kasper Construction Co. and Hamann Construction Co. as a carpenter.
He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and United Brotherhood
of Carpenters and Joiners of American Union Local No. 849.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John (Jane) Miller and Miss Susan
Cherney, of Kenosha; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wencel Cherney, of Taus; a brother,
Lester, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw; a grandson, Christopher, and maternal grandmother,
Mrs. Antonia Timm, of Manitowoc.
Friends may call at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 4 o’clock
this Tuesday evening and at the church after 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of
service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel
Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund.
