JOSEPH E. CHERNY

Joseph Frank Cherney(sic), 79, retired mason contractor, died unexpectedly
at his home, 1223 Philippen St., Manitowoc, just before noon Tuesday. He had
a coronary attack.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
home, Manitowoc, with the Rev. D. T. Stannard officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Cherney was born March 23, 1882, in Czechoslovakia, son of the late James
and Mary Havlik Cherney. In 1905, he married Katherine Hussler in Czechoslo-
vakia and the couple came to the United States in 1907, settling at Manitowoc.
Mrs. Cherney died in 1932. In 1951, he married Mrs. Elizabeth Heise. He had
been a mason contractor and had been employed by Hamann Construction Co. and
Kasper Construction Co.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, Frank of Costa Mesa, Calif, and B. J. Cherney
of Cudahy, Wis.; two daughters, Mrs. Vlasta Miller and Mrs. Frank X. Seidl of
Manitowoc; five step-daughters, Mrs. Fred Schwalbe, Miss Lillian Heise, Mrs.
Walter Olson and Mrs. Arthur Schmidt of Manitowoc and Mrs. Lloyd Kiel of West
Bend, Wis.; 24 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two brothers, Frank
and James, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cherney was a member of ZCBJ Lodge, Bohemian fraternal organization, and
Senior Citizens of Manitowoc.
