Hold Rites For Former Judge Chloupek Today
Manitowoc, Wis. – (Special)—
The funeral of former Judge John Chloupek, who died at St. Vincent's
hospital in Green Bay Sunday, was held here this afternoon.
Judge Chloupek was 74 years old and his death resulted from a stroke
of paralysis which he suffered in February 1934.
The services today were held at the Masonic temple and pallbearers
were fellow townsmen whom he selected about a month ago, all members
of the Masonic order. They were Wilmer Haese, Charles Brandt, Earl
Vits, Harold Groth, Reuben Spoentgen and Van R. Nieholson. Burial was
at Evergreen cemetery.
Judge Chloupek served as judge of county and probate court here for
thirty-four years. He resigned in November last year when he realized
that death was imminent. He was taken to Green Bay soon after he became
ill so that his brother, Dr. Charles Chloupek, could treat him.
Judge Chloupek was born in Manitowoc county on July 20, 1861. He attended
the Narby country school and later taught country schools to earn money
so that he might attend the university to study law. In the fall of 1900

resignation last year. Previous to that he served as clerk of the county
for six years and district attorney four years.
