Rolf P. Christensen, age 68, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Emeritus at Bear Creek in Colorado Springs.
He was born on March 13, 1942, in Manitowoc, son of the late Paul O. and Melvina M. (Williquette) Christensen. Rolf attended St. Paul's School and graduated in 1956. He then graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class of 1960. Rolf attended the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc from 1960-1961 and attended Spencerian Business college, Milwaukee, from 1961-1965, graduating with a Bachelors of Business Administration-Accounting. Rolf spent 20 years in the Air Force from 1967-1987. During his career he was stationed at the following Air Force Bases: Lackland AF Base, Texas 1965; Malmstrom AF Base, Montana 1965; Clark AF Base, Philippines 1968; Thailand: Tan Son Naut Air Base, Viet Nam 1972; RAF Chicksand, England 1976; Bolling AF Base, Washington, DC 1979; Youngsan Barracks, Korea 1982-1893; Hickmand AF Base, Hawaii 1983; and Peterson AF Base, Colorado 1985-1987. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. While at Peterson Air Force Base he worked for North American Aerospace Defense Command and his job title was "War Munitions Programmer-Computer Programmer/Analyst." Rolf retired in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1987 and he remained there until his death. During those years he was a member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association, Air Academy Chapter, The Retired Enlisted Association and a life member of the VFW Post No. 9669 of Colorado Springs, Colo. He volunteered at sporting events at the Air Force Academy and at the TREA Office after his retirement from the Air Force. During these years he became very close friends with Mel and Barbara Peet, who were active as volunteers at the Air Force Academy. The Peets provided invaluable help to Rolf during the past several years.
Survviors include two brothers and a sister-in-law; a sister and brother-in-law; and a sister-in-law (private). Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was also preceded in death by a brother: James E. Christensen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton. Burial of his cremated remains will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, where Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Otto Oas Post No. 659.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, until 10:45 a.m.
