VIRGINIA CHRISTMAN
Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Christman, 49, of 1011 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died
Thursday evening at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral
Home and at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev.
Leo J. Schmitt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Mrs. Christman, nee Virginia Gruesser, was born July 22, 1925, at Milwaukee,
daughter of John Gruesser and the late Mary Alice Linton Gruesser. She was
graduated from Holy Angels Academy of Milwaukee and also from Marquette
University, Milwaukee, with the class of 1947. She was married to Robert C.
Christman April 19, 1947, at Milwaukee, moving to Manitowoc in 1955. She was
basic service supervisor for Manitowoc County Department of Social Services
from 1964 until her death. She was a member of Holy Innocents Parish, Community
Welfare Council, Eastern Wisconsin Social Services Assn. and Board of Directors
of Manitowoc Mobile Meals, president of Manitowoc County Day Care center and
was active in many other professional and civic organizations.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C., three sons, Robert John, of Oshkosh,
William Joseph, of Columbia, S.C., and John Adam, at home; four daughters,
Kathleen Mary and Mary Margaret, of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Keith (Janet Mary) Smith
and Virginia Mary, of Kenosha; her father, John A. Gruesser, of St. Petersburg,
Fla.; a brother, John Gruesser, of Milwaukee, Mrs. Sam (Janet) Savignac, of Elm
Grove, Mrs. William (Mary Alice) Young, of Rawleigh, N.C., and Mrs. James (Betty)
Kauper, of Columbus, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home from 6 to 9 o’clock this
Friday evening where a parish prayer service will be held at 7 o’clock.
