BESS DEMPSEY

Mrs. Benjamin Dempsey died at Chicago last Tuesday morning. Mr. and
Mrs. Dempsey have lived all their lives at Manitowoc until moving to
Chicago about a year ago. Mrs. Dempsey was the third daughter of the
late John Barnes and was known to everyone in the city as "Bess".
Reports Monday that she was rallying from a serious condition following
an operation for appendicitis caused rejoicing to her many friends here
which glad tidings were speedily followed by the news of her sudden
collapse and death. Mrs. Dempsey was born here 33 years ago and
educated at the local schools and Grafton Hall, Fond du Lac. Her
domestic relations were as nearly ideal as they could be. The perfect
understanding and comradeship between herself and her husband was widely
noted. Mrs. Dempsey was a splendid woman, worthy of the affection she
won from hosts of friends and the sympathy of the whole community goes
out to Mr. Dempsey in his terrible bereavement. The body arrived here
Tuesday.
Mrs. Dempsey is survived by two brothers, Bert of New York and John of
this city ad two sisters, Lulu and Lottie, who are at present in Europe.
The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from St. James church, Rev.
Oliphant officiating. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
