HARRY E. DESMIDT
Harry E. DeSmidt, 73, of 613 N. Ninth St., Manitowoc, died Monday night at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient three weeks.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. Vernon E. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. DeSmidt was born Sept 1, 1888, at Sheboygan, son of Jacobus and Maria DeSmidt.
He attended grade school and was graduated from Sheboygan High School. In 1927, he married the former Gertrude Melzer.
He was salesman for Haviland China Co. for several years then he and a brother, Arthur, opened a candy store at Oshkosh. In 1926, they moved to Manitowoc where the brothers opened a candy store in the Dempsey building on North Eighth Street.
Survivors include his wife, a daughter, (private); four brothers, Alfred, Edward and Arthur of Minneapolis, Minn., and Robert M. of Appleton; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Friedrich of Chicago and Mrs. Harry Meusel of Fond Du Lac; three grand-children and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the State Street entrance of Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, until 11 a.m. Thursday when the casket will be moved to First Lutheran Chapel where the body will be in state until the hour of service.
