OSCAR G. DICK

Oscar G. Dick, 71, of 2329 Logwood Lane, Manitowoc, died Sunday noon, January 24,
1988 at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday at
Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Rev. Glenn H. Unke will officiate
with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Dick was born July 12, 1916 at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, son of the late Hector A.
and Mollie Olson Dick. He grew up and was educated in Manitowoc, graduating from
Lincoln High School. Mr. Dick owned and operated Dick Brothers Baking Company for
many years, retiring in 1978. Following the death of his father in 1950, he assumed
the Presidency of the company during which time the bakery grew to be the largest
independently owned wholesale baker in Wisconsin. In 1978, Heilemann Baking Company
purchased the bakery. He was first married to Edrie Jean lineman in May, 1935. He
later married Susan M. Kappelmann on September 15, 1954 at Immanuel Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Dick was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran
Church, past chairman of the Building committee at Manitowoc Lutheran High School
and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and past board member of Manitowoc Lutheran
High School. Mr. Dick was a board member of Manitowoc County Historical Society,
past member of the Optimist Club, founder and life member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club
and past president of the Wisconsin Bakers Association. Mr. Dick was interested in
raising Arabian horses at the Cedar Ridge Ranch and was a member of the Arabian Horse
Registry of America.
Survivors include his wife, Susan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jerome O.
and Karen Dick of Manitowoc, Roger H.C. and Peggy Dick of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin,
Rev. Robert J. and Maria Dick of San Jose, California, Oscar A. Dick and his fiancée
Sally Anderson of Manitowoc; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Darleen J. and
Donald Young of Cincinnati, Ohio, Anne M. and Edward Schultz of Evanston, Illinois,
Patricia S. and Scott Noeldner of Edwards, California, Joann M. and Rick Benzinger
of Ellison Bay, Wisconsin and Stacia S. Dick of Manitowoc; 15 grandchildren and 6
great grandchildren also survive.
Friends may call at Reinbold Pfeffer Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, 4 pm to 9 pm
Tuesday and Wednesday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. Memorials
would be appreciated to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church or Manitowoc Lutheran
High School.
