ERNEST W. DILL (d. 1953)

Resort Owner, Dill, Dies at 65
Ernest W. Dill, 65, who with his wife and family operated Dills English Lake
resort the past nine years, died Sunday night at the Holy Family Hospital
following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dill home in English
Lake and at 2:15 at the Wesley Methodist Church. The Rev. Donald Stoddard will
officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Dill was born in Newton in 1887 and in 1908 married Miss Anna Stokes. They
located in this city where Dill operated a dairy for five years and then moved
to a farm near Branch. Returning to Manitowoc Mr. and Mrs. Dill operated a team
room at Washington and South 20th Streets for a few years and in 1944 took over
the English Lake resort.
Dill was also employed at the Aluminum Goods Company for 30 years, until he took
over the English Lake resort. He was an active member of the Wesley Methodist
Church and sang in the choir for 37 years. His other affiliations included member-
ship in the Wisconsin tavern League, Manitowoc County Tavern League, barbershop
chorus, Izaak Walton League and Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective
Association.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Kimmes and Mrs. Frederick Haupt
of Rt. 3, Manitowoc; two sons, Ernest Jr., of Manitowoc Rapids, and Robert with
the armed force at Fort Leonard Wood, in Missouri; brother, Harry of Manitowoc.
The casket will be moved to the home at English Lake from the Urbanek and Schlei
Funeral Home. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
