Anton Doneff has found peace through the love of his savior after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease. "Tony," as his friends knew him, was born in Milwaukee, June 5, 1925, to Bozin and Christian Doneff. He attended Bay View High School and Milwaukee Technical College. Upon graduation he was employed by the Allen Bradley Company. In 1950 he began a long and fulfilled career with General Electric Medical Systems. As part of the management team at G.E. he was involved in the development of revolutionary medical technology including CT-Scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines. Upon retirement in 1986 he moved to Manitowoc with his wife and subsequently worked with his two sons in the construction and real estate development business.
Tony met his wife, Ethelyn (Lemmer), at Allen Bradley where they were both members of the company orchestra. Together they raised their family in Hales Corners and were blessed with four children. He returned this blessing as a dedicated and consoling father. He always enjoyed fishing with his sons and affectionaly listening to fine piano performances of his talented daughters. Through their 61 years of marriage Tony kept a loving eye on his bride.
Anton served on the Village of Hales Corners Board as president and trustee for 25 years. He was instrumental in shaping the growth of the suburban community. He cherished his membership in the Manitowoc Rotary Club and his many friends there.
Tony and Ethelyn most enjoyed their time in Egg Harbor and established a second home there in 1977. "The Cottage" became a real grandkid magnet, which provided many happy times for all. They also enjoyed travel and spent considerable time in Spain during Tony's work assignments there. The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Repertory Theater were particularly important parts of their lives. They also were enthusiastic supporters of Peninsula Players and the Manitowoc Symphony. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. To his last day, Tony enjoyed singing hymns and patriotic sons.
He is survived by his children; grandchildren, great grandchildren (private). He was preceded in death by his loving wife Ethelyn, his parents, and two older sisters who died in childhood in Macedonia.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 521, N. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate with burial to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Doneff family.
