Donald E. Dow, 63, of 843 Wilson St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 23, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. James J. Stamborski will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Mark, Richard, Steven, Patrick and David Pensis, and Dale Wagner. Honorary pallbearers will be Arden T. Muchin, Ward Schuette, M. Lance Hooper, Gerald G. Sensky, A.R. Lauson, Sylvester J. Schmelzer, Robert Eck, Arthur T. Chermak, Leonard C. Pfeffer, George Radandt, Thomas Knab, Carmen Chizek and Joseph Schilder.
Mr. Dow was born Aug. 7, 1919, at Manitowoc, son of the late Herbert and Erma Herrmann Dow. He was graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1937. He was a veteran serving during World War II as an S/ST in the United States Air Force from Dec. 12, 1941, to Oct. 15, 1945. He served in the European and North African Theaters and also received a purple heart medal. He married Eunice Pensis Oct. 19, 1948, at Green Bay. Mr. Dow was president of E.E. Dow Inc., former owner and operator of Dow Canvas Products, and was one of the founders, presently vice president and a member of the board of directors of Manitowoc County Bank. He was active and instrumental in the organization and promotion of Manitowoc Maritime Museum. The Dow family was well known in Manitowoc as an old sailing family and was very active in the marine life of Manitowoc. Mr. Dow was a member of the board of directors and a member of Manitowoc Maritime Museum, a member of Masonic Lodge 65 F. and A.M., a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 706 of Manitowoc, and a member of V.F.W. Post 659 of Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; two stepsisters, Mrs. William (Elaine) Penznick of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. E. (Charlotte) Rish of Broxton, Ga.; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Austin Pensis, Warren and Theresa Pensis, and James and Norma Pensis of Green Bay, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis and his stepmother, Frances Dow.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock this Friday evening and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to Manitowoc Maritime Museum.
