EDGAR J. AND PORTIA W. DUCKETT

Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Duckett Jr., 34, and 31, respectively of 7611 West 10th
St., Indianapolis, died late Saturday afternoon as a result of a private plane
accident while enroute to Manitowoc to visit relatives.
Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral
Home and at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rev.
William Kuhr will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Military
graveside rites by the U.S. Naval Reserve will be accorded Mr. Duckett.
Mr. Duckett was born Oct. 6, 1938, at Sylva, N.C. son of Edgar J. Duckett Sr.,
and Lula Hood Duckett. He attended Oregon State University and was graduated
from San Diego State University in 1962 where he was a well known football
player and a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He married Portia Darelius
June 8, 1962, at St. Mary Magdeline Catholic Church, San Diego. He was
commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy and served three years aboard the USS
Ticonderoga aircraft carrier in the Vietnam area. He was active in the U.S. Naval
Reserve as a lieutenant commander at Indianapolis.
Prior to their residence at Indianapolis the couple resided at Tulelake and Davis,
Calif. Mr. Duckett was a self-employed rancher at Tulelake and was also employed
at Dow Chemical Corp. As a salesman in the agriculture chemical division from the
Indianapolis office.
Mrs. Duckett was born July 12, 1941, at Wisconsin Rapids, daughter of Harold V.
Darelius and Beatrice Wagner Darelius. She was graduated from Kearny High School,
San Diego, with the Class of 1959. She attended San Diego College for women and
received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Diego State College. She did
graduate work at Sonoma State College, Calif., and did further study at Indiana
State University, Butler University and Michigan School for the Blind at Lansing,
Mich. She currently was attending classes at Michigan State University where she
would have completed her masters in June of 1973. She was employed as a special
education instructor the past two years for the retarded, deaf and blind at Noble
1, Marin CountyAssociation School for the Mentally Retarded, Indianopolis. Mrs.
Duckett was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta International Fraternity and Mr. and
Mrs. Duckett were members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Indianapolis.
Surviving Mr. and Mrs. Duckett are their two children, a son, (private), and a
daughter, (private). Mr. Duckett’s survivors also include his parents of Tulelake
and two sisters, (private). Mrs. Duckett’s survivors also include her parents
formerly of Manitowoc of Indianapolis, a brother, (private); and maternal grand-
father, Joseph M. Wagner, of Manitowoc.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday where a prayer
service will be at 8 p.m.
