ELIZABETH DUENO (d. 1940)

Mrs. Louise Dueno, 75, widow of August Dueno, fire chief of Manitowoc
in the days when the apparatus was horse-drawn, died yesterday at the
Holy Family hospital. She was removed to the hospital only a few hours
before from the home, 916 Madison street.
Mrs. Dueno had been in failing health for more than three years.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Wesley M.E.
church, the Rev. Victor Nearhoof, officiating. Interment will be in
Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Dueno, nee Louise Kuecker, was born in Kewaunee county and was
married here to August Dueno 56 years ago. Mr. Dueno was chief of the
fire department here when it became a full-time department, instead
of volunteer. In those days the equipment, consisting of a hook and
ladder truck and two hose wagons, was hauled to fires by horses.
When Mr. Dueno retired from active service he was succeeded by the
late J.H. Kratz. Mr. and Mrs. Dueno made their home on the south side
in later years where Mr. Dueno died in 1928. Mrs. Dueno was a member
of the Women's Relief Corps, War Mothers, Ladies Aid and Missionary
societies of the M.E. church.
Survivors are six sons, George, of this city, Frank, Henry, Julius
and August of Chicago, Fred of Cincinnati; three daughters, Mrs. I.W.
Norteman of this city, Mrs. H.D. Kuentz and Mrs. R.H. Stiehm of
Madison; sister, Mrs. George Dueno of this city; brother, Henry
Kuecker of Green Bay; and five grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Frazier mortuary from tonight at seven
o'clock until Monday at 10 a.m., when it will be moved to the church.
