Andrew J. Dufek, 86, of 7503 Manor Dr., Crystal Lake, Ill., formerly of Cary,
Ill., died Sunday at Crystal Pines Nursing Home at Crystal Lake.
Fuenral servces will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cary United Methodist Church at
Cary with the Rev. Gordon R. Schafer officiating. Graveside committal will be
at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Kristaps
Caune officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American
Legion Drews-Bleser Post No. 88 of Manitowoc.
Mr. Dufek was born Jan. 26, 1888, at Fayette, Mich., son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Dufek. He was in the army in World War I, serving in the First Division
316th Infantry. He was overseas 20 months in five major battles as a machine
gunner. He married Harriet Schneider Oct. 10, 1925, at Chicago. He was a self
employed blacksmith and also worked for the Duering Co. of Chicago. His wife
preceded him in death in 1963. He was past commander of the Cary American Legion
Post No. 276 and a member of the VFW Post of Crystal Lake and Cary United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Matt, of Manitowoc and Frank, of Mountain View,
Mo.; a sister, Barbara, of Land o'Lakes, Wis.; six grandchildren (names omitted
for privacy); eight great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Viola Nielson.
A son, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Warren and Flagg Funeral Home, Cherry Grove Chapel, Cary,
from 3 to 9:30 o'clock this Monday evening. They may also call at Schneider-
Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may
be made to Crystal Pines Nursing Home.
