Anton J. Dufek, 74, of 924 Lincoln Blvd., Manitowoc, died early Monday at Wood
Veterans Hospital, Milwaukee, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Mittnacht Fuenral Home, Manitowoc,
and 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church where a solemn requiem High Mass
will be celebrated by the Rev. E. A. Radey. The Rev. William H. Zimmer will be
the Deacon and the Rev. James Stamborski the Sub-Deacon. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military graveside rites will be conducted by
Drews-Bleser Post No. 88, American Legion.
Mr. Dufek was born March 2, 1890, in Fayette, Mich., son of the late Andrew Sr.
and Anna Weber Dufek. The family moved to New Denmark in Brown County when he
was a boy. He attended school there and came to Manitowoc in 1913.
He married Lillian Krcma in 1920. She died in 1927.
He was a blacksmith on Manitowoc Fire Dept. until World War I. During the war he
served as master engineer with Headquarters Company of the 310 Engineer Battalion,
seeing service in France and Germany.
After the war he was employed at J. J. Stangel Hardware Co., Manitowoc and during
World War II he worked at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co. He was then engaged as the
local Watkins dealer until retiring in 1959.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Holy Innocents Catholic Church,
Manitowoc, Eagles Aerie, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony and John of Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs.
John Irving of Chicago and Mildred of Manitowoc; three brothers, Mathew C. of
Manitowoc, Andrew of Cary, Ill. and Frank of Mountain View, Mo.; two sisters,
Mrs. France Kettner of Manitowoc and Mrs. Barbra Boulanger of Green Bay, and
seven grandchildren. A daughter Margaret and four brothers also preceded him
in death.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the Rosary
will be recited at 7 p.m. by the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and
Daughters of Isabella.
