EMIL DUFEK

Emil Dufek is killed in collision
A member of The Herald Times Reporter Advertising Dept. was killed here Friday
morning in an accident involving his station wagon and a milk tanker truck.
The victim was identified as Emil R. Dufek, 58, of 2611 Marshall St., Manitowoc.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of crushing injuries.
The truck driver, who was not identified, was taken to an area hospital for
treatment.
Leroy Hughes, Calumet County coroner, provided this account of the accident:
One or two cars were traveling ahead of the White Clover Dairy tanker truck in
a westbound direction on Highway 10-57 at the west end of a railroad overhead
shortly before 10 a.m.
The lead car attempted a left turn onto Highway 57. The driver of the tanker
truck pulled to the right to pass the slowed down cars.
Dufek was traveling behind the tanker and tried to pass on the left side when
the truck operator pulled to the right. The Dufek apparently cut back in front
of the tanker. The tanker hit Dufek's station wagon and pushed it into the
ditch in the northwest corner of the intersection. The tanker truck then
rolled over the top of the station wagon and came to rest beyond it in an
upside down condition.
Dufek's body was taken to Wieting Funeral Home in Brillion and was transferred
later to Urbanek & Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc.

for 10 years.
Dufek practically grew up in the newspaper business, starting at the age of
nine as a carrier boy for local and national publications.
He and his wife, Rita, had operated a real estate business. She formerly was
a telephone receptionist at the newspaper.
