George A. Dummer, 82, of 505 South 30th Street, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, January 2, at Holy Family Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Arno J. Wolfgramm will officiate with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Dummer was born January 28, 1901, at Manitowoc, son of the late William and Emilie Behringer Dummer. Mr. Dummer was baptized and confirmed at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. He continued his education with the Manitowoc School Systems. Mr. Dummer worked with the United States Post Office as a clerk here in Manitowoc from December 9, 1920 until his retirement on November 30, 1962. He was later employed as a desk clerk at the Hotel Howard and later employed as security guard at Mirro Aluminum Corporation. He married Sadie Sonnenburg on June 6, 1931, at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1981. He was a member of the Retired Federal Workers of America and a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council as elder from 1942 to 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Sadie; a daughter and a son-in-law, Judith and Rev. Henry Koch of Cleveland, Wis.; three grandchildren, Susan Koch of Jenevia, Nebraska, Henry Koch and Katherine Koch, both of Cleveland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survived. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, Friday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and a the church from noon until the time of services. Memorials would be appreciated to First German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manitowoc or Lutheran High School.
