Alexander Durette, 75, of 827 S. 35th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening
at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc where he had been a patient the past three
weeks.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc,
and at 9 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The Rev. Alfred Pritzl will
officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Durette was born Nov. 25, 1884, at Gorham, N.H., son of the late Joseph and
Tarsinnia Pope Durette. He came to Wisconsin in 1930 and married the former
Lillian Willoughby in 1937 at Arkansas. He was second assistant lighthouse keeper
at Manitowoc from 1930 to 1936 and from 1936 until 1941 he was head lighthouse
keeper at Beaver Island, Mich. After 1941 he made his home at Manitowoc. Mr.
Durette was one of the few veterans of the Spanish-American War.
Surviving are the wife, a son, Fred, of Waterville, Maine, a sister, Mrs. Anna
Burgess, of Medford, Mass., and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday where the Rosary will
be recited at 7 p.m.
