Edward Dusold Dies Suddenly; Rites Saturday
Edward M. Dusold, veteran supervisor from the Manitowoc Fourth ward, died early
Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Louis Delsman, 1014 N. 11th St.
Supervisor Dusold, who was 84 at the time of his death, had been ill only a short
time, having recovered from an operation to which he submitted several months ago.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Mittnacht Funeral Home and at

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Dusold, whose residence was at 713 Cleveland Ave., was born in Manitowoc in
1868, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Dusold. When a young man he became a
marine engineer and sailed the Great Lakes for 23 years as an engineer on ore
carriers.
Grocery Business
In 1907 he gave up his sailing career to purchase a grocery store at the corner of
Cleveland Ave. and North Eighth St., in Manitowoc, which he operated continuously
for 19 years until his retirement from business in 1927.
The deceased married the former Miss Nellie Jorsch in 1896. Mrs. Dusold died in 1933.
It was after his retirement from the grocery business that Mr. Dusold first entered
local politics, making a successful run for the County Board seat from the Fourth
ward in 1931. He served for eight terms until the election of the late George Clark
in 1939.
In February, 1946, upon the death of Mr. Clark, Mr. Dusold was appointed by the late
Mayor Martin Georgenson to complete the unexpired term. He had been reelected each
term since then.
At his death Sup. Dusold was chairman of the County Board’s Tax and Assessment
Committee. He had served on practically every board committee, including several
years on the important Highway Committee.

He also was a former member of the Manitowoc City Plan Commission.
He was a member of the Holy Name Society at Sacred Heart and was corresponding secretary
of the Marine Engineers Benevolent Association.
Surviving, in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Delsman, is another daughter, Mrs. Leo
Schroeder of Manitowoc; a brother, Oliver Dusold of Sandusky, Ohio; five granddaughters
and five great-granddaughters.
