The former Lucille Westphal was born on Dec. 8, 1911, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Charles and Emma (Konnenberg) Westphal. She graduated from First German School in 1925, and from Lincoln High School with the class of 1929. From 1929 to 1935 she worked at the Aluminum Goods in Manitowoc. On Sept. 7, 1935, Lucille was married to Robert Ellig in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1991. She worked at Kelvinator and later the Manitowoc Equipment Works from 1956, until her retirement in 1978. Lucille resided at 1110 S. 16th St. for 75 years until moving to Shady Lane in 2005. She was a lifetime member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lucille loved to entertain and dine out and go to the Capital Civic Centre. She especially enjoyed her visits with her son and his family in New York city.
Survivors include her son and his wife: one grandson; one grandaughter-in-law; four great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law (private). She was also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Emma Westphal; her husband, Robert Ellig; three brothers: Edwin Westphal; Henry Westphal, Karl Westphal; one sister: Elsie Moore; three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: Richard Ellig; Carl Herman; Charles Moore: Marion Herman; one daughter-in-law; Marie Ellig.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1033 S. 8th St., Manitowoc. The Rev. David Rosenow will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, 818 State St., Manitowoc, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
A memorial fund has been established in Lucille's name for First German Evangelical Lutheran Church.
