LIEUT. COMMANDER HANS ERTZ ORDERED TO DUTY IN PATROLLING OCEAN FOR FLIGHT OF SEA PLANES
Lieut. Commander Hans Ertz, who has been here on a leave of absence
from the navy, departed for New York today, ordered for duty aboard
the U.S.S. destroyer Gamble which is one of the fleet of destroyers
ordered to patrol the Atlantic ocean during the flight of navy plans
in the attempt to cross the ocean. The flight is to be undertaken
early next month and the government has arranged for a fleet of boats
to cover the route to render aid in event of an accident to the
planes.
Three planes will be sent out on the transatlantic flight. The Manitowoc
man did not know where the Gamble would be sent on the course, but
understands that a large fleet is to police the course. The three planes
will follow the same line of flight.
