Louis Fandrick, age 86, of 711 Flambeau St., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly on
Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at his home.
Louis was born on Feb. 17, 1918 in Engadine, Mich., son of the late Alexander
and Augusta Hildebrandt Fandrick. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School
with the class of 1937. Louis served one term in the National Guard, Company E,
127th Infantry. He entered into active duty in October 1941, serving four years
in the U.S. Army with the Signal Corp as a photographer and German interpreter,
being honorably discharged on Dec. 5, 1945. On Dec. 21, 1942, he married Eleanor
Bayne, she preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1964. On June 5, 1970, he married
Ellen LaCosse in Combined Locks. Lou was a news photography and photo engraver
employed by the Manitowoc Herald-Times Reporter for 42 year, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Wisconsin News Photographer Association, life member
Northeast Wisconsin Great Lakes Fishing Organization, Pine River Sportsmen Club,
Travelers Protective Association, Trout Unlimited, Manitowoc Kiwanis, Golden K.
Masonic Lodge #65, F&AM of Wisconsin and American Legion Drews-Bleser Post #88.
He was a member and former elder and deacon at First Presbyterian Church,
Manitowoc.
Suvivors include his wife: Ellen Fandrick, Manitowoc; two daughters: Phyllis
(Fred) Browne, Boston, Mass.; Mary Grow (Jean Marc Richel), Spring Green, Wis.;
stepchildren: Elizabeth (Juan) Alcedo, Mill Valley, Calif.; Ann LaCosse, San
Francisco, Calif.; Robert LaCosse, Milwaukee; Patrick (Patricia) LaCosse,
Manitowoc; Kevin (Heidi) LaCosse, Pot Washington; grandchildren: Cheyene Grow,
Manitowoc Springs, Colo.; Elizabeth Browne, Boston, Mass.; Paul Robert LaCosse,
Elena Alcedo, Connor Lacosse, Christian LaCosse and Victoria LaCosse. He is
further survived by one brother: Arnold (Julia) Fandrick, Manitowoc; three sisters,
Ethel Titera, Manitowoc; Violet Schroeder, Engadine, Mich.; and Lucille Adler,
Newbery, Mich.; other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by two
brothers: Alex Fandrick and Sigfried Fandrick.
Thee family will greet relatives and friends at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc,
on Monday morning, Aug. 16, 2004, from 9 to 11 a.m. Masonic Lodge #65 will meet at
9:30 a.m. and Drews-Bleser Post #88 will have an honor guard at 10:45 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc.
Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Chris Schwab with burial to follow at
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Memorials may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or First Presbyterian
Church.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family
with funeral arrangements.
Lou was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Lou was a talented,
award winning photographer and his work was greatly appreciated. He was a volunteer
at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for many years.
