Miss Anna Filholm (above), 90, of 316 North Sixth St., Manitowoc, last
surviving member of the Filholm family, died late Saturday afternoon. Miss
Filholm, who only last August witnessed her third cornerstone laying at the
First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, had been living at the Shady Lane Home in
recent months.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Roland Schwandt will officiate and interment will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Miss Filholm was born in Manitowoc in 1862 and spent her entire life in the
city. She was only four years old when she saw the first cornerstone laying
ceremony at the First Lutheran Church, North Eighth and State Streets, in
Manitowoc. In 1899, when the church was remodeled and enlarged, she was at
the second cornerstone laying.
Her father was a tailor at the O. Torrison Company, and she worked there for
several years as a seamstress and clerk. She was the oldest member of the
First Lutheran congregation and was honored this year by the Prisca Society
of the church on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
Miss Filholm's brother and sister, Calvin and Clara, both died in 1950. Only
survivors are nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Frazier mortuary, Manitowoc, after 7 p.m. Monday. The
casket will be moved to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
