Edson P. Foster Sr., 73, of 10726 Morgan Rd., Cato, died Friday afternoon, May 4, at the family residence.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. William Plank will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Foster was born Nov. 5, 1910, at Torrington, Conn., son of the late Howard and Adeline Perkins Foster. He received his education at Suffield Academy at Suffield, Conn. Mr. Foster continued his education at the Unnversity (sic) of New York where he received a Track Scholarship. Mr. Foster was one of the top world class mile runners in the late 20's and early 30's. From 1931 to 1943 he worked in the Manitowoc Shipbuilding with the Submarine Program. From 1947 to 1950 there was a joint venture with Foster Needle Company of Manitowoc and the Textile Machine Works of Reading Pa. in 1950 to 1956, Mr. Foster was self-employed and in 1956 founded Foster Needle Company, Inc. During this time he established over 50 patents both in the United States and Worldwide primarily regarding Needle Manufacturing. Up until the present time, Mr. Foster was still Chairman of the Board of Foster Needle Company, Inc. He married Mary Jane Hamilton, Sept. 15, 1939, at Manitowoc. Mr. Foster was a member of Branch River Country Club, the B and B Club and First Presbyterianan (sic) Church, Manitowoc.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; four sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Nancy Foster of Green Bay, Frederick and Pamela Foster of Manitowoc, Edson and Jane Foster Jr. of Manitowoc and John and Margaret Foster of Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Robert Ketner of Tacoma, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Peg Foster of Hendersonville, N.C., nine grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and at the church Monday from noon until the time of services. Memorials would be appreciated to Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
