PROF. FRAENZEL ONCE MUSICIAN AT CZAR’S COURT
Prof. Ferdinand Fraenzel, musician and composer, who died suddenly at his home
on Hancock street, yesterday afternoon, was at one time a member of the Czar’s
court orchestra at St. Petersburg, Russia, while completing his studies in that
country. Reference to his experience in Russia is made in papers found among
effects of Mr. Fraenzel.
Although in failing health for some time Prof. Fraenzel was about the house
yesterday morning but when he failed to appear for the noon day meal and his
room was visited the aged man was found dead, on the bed, evidently having
passed away while resting. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from the
home.
Prov. Fraenzel was born in Austria and came here with his parents in 1856. A
lover of music and a student, he early developed his talent and played with local
orchestras, while learning the printer’s trade. Later he removed to Milwaukee and
from there left for Leipsig, Germany, to complete his studies, visiting Russia and
other European countries for several years. He returned here in 1887 and in 1912
disposed of his property and located at Seattle where he remained five years and
then came back to this city.
Of the immediate family, only one survives Prof. Fraenzel, being a sister, Mrs.
Ed. Erdman, of Seattle. A niece, Miss Clara Fraenzel, with whom he made his home,
also survives.
