AUGUSTA FRANKE

Car Overturns on 141
Mrs. Franke was killed at about 7:30 last night when the car driven
by her son, A.H. Franke, overturned 2 miles north of St. Wendel. Franke,
according to Motorcycle Officer William Ladwig, was attempting to pass a
line of three cars when the accident occurred. As he reached the second
car he thought the machine was swinging towards the center of the road.
Franke tried to drive along the edge of the concrete, went over too far
and the car plunged into the ditch, rolling over three times through a
fence and into a corn field.
According to Ladwig, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident,
and Sheriff Norman Berkedal, who was called, the car was damaged beyond
repair. The entire top was crushed in on top of the occupants. (private)
was thrown clear of the car and was lying at the edge of the embankment
near the road when help arrived. Mr. Groll was lying a few feet away and
Mrs. A.H. Franke was lying alongside the car.
The two women, Mr. Groll and Mr. Franke, were rushed to the Holy Family
hospital here in the county ambulance by Sheriff Berdedal, and Deputies
Joseph Beernstsen and John Matxzynski. Mrs. Franke was pronunced dead
when the ambulance reached the hospital.
C.D. Fisher took the Franke boy to the hospital.
Coroner Gerald Rau said this morning that there will be no inquest.
