FATHER OF CITY TREASURER FRANKE DIES AT AGE OF 86
Wm. Franke, Pioneer Ship Carpenter of City Passes Away.
William Franke, father of City Treasurer Henry Franke, and a resident
of this city since 1865, being one of the pioneer ship carpenters of
the city, died at his home, Division and Eleventh streets, last night,
aged 86 years. Mr. Franke had been in failing health for some time and
his advanced age contributed to his demise.
Mr. Franke was born in Germany June 3, 1830 and come to Manitowoc in
1865 and for many years was employed as a ship carpenter, retiring some
years ago when age overtook him. Besides his aged widow, Mr. Franke is
survived by eight children, Mrs. William Schroeder, Mrs. Fred Rockhoff,
Mrs. Wm. Sampe, Mrs. Emil Hacker and Henry Franke, this city; Mr. Ernst
Jahnke, Mrs. Bertha Tulp, Chicago and Emil Franke of Winnipeg.
