HEROIC BATTLE OF JOHN FRICK FOR LIFE FUTILE
Death again emphasized the futility of human ambition and the unpitying decree
of fate or destiny when it claimed John H. Frick, one of the city’s well known
young men, who passed away Saturday night after a heroic battle against the
ravages of an insidious disease which had wasted his energy and made him prey
to sudden taking away. News of his death came as a shock for while it was known
that his condition was unfavorable, the end had not been expected and came
suddenly and without warning.
John Frick was 24 years of age at his death. Born at Ashland December 16, 1897,
he came to Manitowoc with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Frick. In 1902,
attended the local schools and graduated from the North Side high. He was employed
in the offices of the Northwestern here and later with the Aluminum Goods company
in its office up to two years ago when his health failed following an attack of
influenza. He spent a year returned here when his condition did not seem to improve
and three months ago entered Maple Crest at Whitelaw where his death occurred.
Three years ago last June Mr. Frick was married to Aleet?? Gerpheide, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Gerpheide and besides his widow he is survived by his parents,
one sister Miss Gladys Frick and two brothers Clyde and Stanley Frick and a half
brother, Raymond Frick.
The death of Mr. Frick will be deeply deplored by a large circle of friends. He was
a young man to whom life’s outlook was brought. He was possessed of ambition and the
qualification and persistency that augured for a successful future. A faithful,
devoted friend he was held in esteem by all who knew him and to those who knew him
best, his character was best appreciated.
Funeral services will be held from the late home 1524 Clark street tomorrow afternoon
at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Keicher will officiate at the home while the Elks, of which Mr.
Frick was a member, will have charge of the services at the grave.
