SUICIDE.
Yesterday, an old man named Fuchs, living near the livery stable of Contway &
Moran, shot himself through the body and is now lying at the point of death.
In the morning he went to the hardware store of Wagner & Rend, and purchased
a revolver. After loading it he went into his little confectionery store and
seeing some men standing on the sidewalk, waved his hand toward them and said
“good-bye.” He then placed the revolver against his breast and pulled the
trigger. The wound is a very dangerous one and probably will prove fatal.
Fuchs is about 60 years of age. He has for some time been addicted to drink and
was of a moody, morose disposition. His habits led to domestic difficulties and
his despondency must have reached the limit of insanity. Hard drink was no doubt
the cause of the deed. He confesses having intended to kill his wife before
attempting his own life, but was withheld on account of the sorrow it would cause
his son. He expresses the hope that he will not recover.

Old Fuchs’ flag is still there. The old man was economical even in his attempt
upon his own life. The pistol with which he perpetrated the deed was purchased
after a well sustained attempt to beat down the price, and a plea to “throw in”
the cartridges at least.

FUCHS, the man who tried to kill himself some time ago, and who did put a bullet
in his body, “nearest the heart,” is able to be up. A writ of quo warranto should
be served upon him, or some other legal proceeding instituted to make him show
cause why he didn’t die and thus give an opportunity for holding an inquest.
