EDWARD GAEDKE

Edward Gaedke, 55, who retired four years ago as a member of the city fire
department, died early today at his home on the outskirts of Suring, Oconto
county. He suffered a heart attack last December and has been in failing
health since then.
He was born in Brown county and married Miss Mildred Scott. He joined the
fire department and was stationed at the Franklin street station. He retired
four years ago with the rank of captain after 22 years service and two years
ago moved to Suring.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Edward Jr., in the navy, Robert of this
city and Roland who graduated this year from the University of Wisconsin;
four sisters, Mrs. Harry Blumenstein and Mrs. Edward Hopper of California and
Mrs. Arthur Scherer and Mrs. Hugo Schroeder of this city.
A brother, the late Fire Chief, John Gaedke, died in July, 1948.
Funeral services will be held at the Pfeffer funeral home with announcement
of the time on Wednesday.

CITY FIREMAN ELOPES TO WED AT WAUKEGAN
Miss Mildred Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scott, 510 Commercial street
and Edward Gaedke, member of the city fire department with the South Side station
were quietly married at Waukegan yesterday and returned to the city last evening
to take up their home at 425 North Tenth street. Announcement of the wedding
came as a surprise to friends and relatives who were unaware of the plans of the
couple.
The bride, since her residence here three years ago, has been employed as a clerk,
the family coming here from Ludington, Mich. The bridegroom is a Manitowoc boy
and has been a member of the fire department for a number of years.
Mr. Gaedke is the second member of the local fire department to find culmination
of happiness in marriage at the Illinois gretna green within a month. Mark Larsen,
a member of the north side department, was wedded at Waukegan only recently.
