James G. Garey, 88, retired vice president of the Eastman company, died at
his home, 1020 North 11th street, this morning at 9 o’clock.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 8:30 from the Pfeffer
funeral home and at 9 o’clock a requiem mass will be celebrated by the Rev.
E. A. Radey at the Holy Innocents Catholic church. Interment will be in
Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Garey was born on Sept. 30, 1855 in the town of Franklin, the son of
William and Bridget Garey and for the last 31 years has made his home in this
city. He operated a farm until 1912 when he became affiliated with the Eastman
company. He retired 10 years ago. He served the town of Manitowoc as supervisor
during 1915 and 1916.
Mr. Garey was probably Manitowoc’s staunchest supporter of the housing movement
in this city and during 1935 did the work of building an addition to his home.
The deceased was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of
the Holy Name society of the Holy Innocents church.
He was married on June 14, 1893 to Margaret O’Hearn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
John O’Hearn, who passed away in January five years ago.
Surviving Mr. Garey are two sisters, Miss Sarah, who made her home with him and
Mrs. Hannah Donohue of Chicago.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home from Sunday afternoon on until the
time of services. The rosary will be recited Monday at 8 p.m. at the funeral
home.
