Gaterman Dead Following Stroke
William Gaterman Sr., 89, of Memorial Drive, founder and president of the
Gaterman Manufacturing Company, died Tuesday noon following a stroke Monday.
He had been ill the past few weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. John Evangelical
and Reformed Church. The Rev. Paul Blaufuss will officiate and interment will
be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Gaterman was born in Newton in 1963 and in 1893 married Miss Lydia
Grosshuesch. They located on a farm in the town for 10 years and moved to
this city in 1903. He founded the Gaterman company and had many inventions
to his credit including 14 patents on specialized agricultural equipment.
He was a director for several years of the Manitowoc Daily Times and also a
director at one time of the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry Company.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Erwin of Manitowoc; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar
Born of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. G. Alan Kriz of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grand-
children and two great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home
after 4 p.m. Thursday. The casket will be moved to the church at 9 a.m. Friday.
