William J. Gierke, 76, of 814 South 19th street, died Monday evening at his
home following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran church,
the Rev. C. L. Hinderlie officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Gierke was born in Chicago in 1872 and later lived in Cedarburg before
locating in Manitowoc. He married Anna Jacquette in Manitowoc in 1899. For 25
years, he was employed at the Aluminum Goods manufacturing company, retiring
in 1946.
Survivors are the husband; five daughters, Mrs. Larry Roeming, Mrs. Howard
Duebner, and Mrs. Harold Klusmeyer of Manitowoc, Mrs. Frank Cherney of Long
Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Jake Meyer of Sheboygan; son, Edwin of city; sister,
Mrs. Lottie Williams of Milwaukee; six grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the Urbanek and Schlei funeral home from Wednesday
until 10 a.m. Thursday when the body will be moved to the church, to lie in
state until the hour of services.
Mr. Gierke was a member of the Aluminum Workers of America.
