GEORGE GREEN PASSES AWAY
Services For World War Veteran To Be Held Saturday
George G. Green, 50, of 810 Commercial street, World war veteran and painter for many years, died Wednesday afternoon at the hospital. He had been seriously ill for a week. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Frazier mortuary. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Born Here in 1886 Mr. Green, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Green, was born in this city in 1886 and except for his service overseas always made this city his home. After finishing school he took up the painting trade. For a number of years he was employed by his uncle, Walter Green, painting contractor. He also took painting contracts from the Goodrich Transit company, doing decorating and painting on many of the boats of the Goodrich fleet.
During the World war Mr. Green was stationed in an Alabama training camp and was assigned to the 33rd U.S. Field artillery. He sailed with the unit for France and was overseas for 18 months, until the termination of the war. Returns After War Returning to Manitowoc after the war Mr. Green resumed painting contracting work. Eight years ago he entered employ of the Manitowoc Shipbuilding corporation in the blueprint department. He was a member of the Masonic order and the American Legion post. A sister, Mrs. Lewis Hawkins, Sterling, Ill., survives. The body may be viewed at the Frazier mortuary until the hour of services. Manitowoc Herald Times, December 3, 1936 P. 10
