MELVIN GROTBECK

Melvin Grotbeck, 70, of 2114 Emerson Street, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, May 18, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Rev. Glenn H. Unke will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Grotbeck was born May 31, 1914, at Fairdale, North Dakota, son of the late Gullik and Annette Greenwald Grotbeck. He grew up in Manitowoc and for 43 years he was employed at Wisconsin Fuel and Light Company, retiring in 1979. He married Hilda M. Nickels at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on October 2, 1963. Mr. Grotbeck was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid gardener.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Edward K. and Jane A. Grotbeck of Milwaukee, Arnold H. and Marilyn Grotbeck of Sheboygan, and Eugene A. and Susan Grotbeck of Naperville, Illinois; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Clarence Glaser of Two Creeks and Sharon and Jim Langer of Norman, Wisconsin; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gudun and Harold Sorensen of Beloit, Mabel and Harold Nickels and Mrs. Lillian Carlson of Manitowoc; a special friend, Vi Christel of Manitowoc; 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley, in 1979, and four brothers.
Friends and relatives may meet with the family at Urbanek and Schlei Pfeffer and Reinbold Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and at the church after 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.
