Hansen Killed in Auto Crash
5 Others Are Hurt
Cars Skid on Ice on Memorial Drive
Burton S. Hansen, 51, of 1215 Marshall street, Washington street jeweler and
World War I veteran, was fatally injured in a collision between two automobiles
early Saturday evening on Memorial drive in front of the Mon-a-mi club.
Five other persons were injured…
Thrown Out of Car
All three occupants of the Paulus car were thrown out of the front seat on to
the highway. Mr. Hansen sustained a broken neck and fractured skull and was
pronounced dead on entrance to the Holy Family hospital in this city.
Both Mrs. Hansen, 44, and her sister, Miss Paulus, sustained slight concussions
with cuts about the knees and body. Mrs. Hansen had severe neck and scalp lacer-
ations that required several stitches to close the wounds. Sunday both were
reported in serious condition but today are improved…
Funeral Wednesday
Funeral services for Mr. Hansen will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Urbanek
and Schlei funeral home, the Rev. Carroll Hinderlie of the First Lutheran church
officiating. Members of the American Legion bowling team on which Mr. Hansen
rolled will be pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted at the grave in

Mr. Hansen was born in this city in 1895 and received his education in the local
schools. He learned the watchmaking trade in Milwaukee and enlisted in the United
States army in World War I, serving overseas in France with the 86th division. For
a number of years after the war he worked at the bench with leading Milwaukee
jewelers. In 1928 he married Miss Thelma Paulus in Milwaukee.
In 1934 Mr. Hansen opened a jewelry store on Jay street and in 1939 moved to the
present location at 1224 Washington street.
Survivors are his wife; nine brothers, Edgar, Leonard, Alderman Delmar, Paul,
William and Gordon of this city, Harold and Robert of Milwaukee, and Vernon of
Sheboygan; two sisters, Mrs. Leo Promen of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Frank Hodek of
Milwaukee.
The body may be viewed after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
