August Hartung, 82, Dies At Son’s Home, Menasha
August Hartung, 82, former Manitowoc and Chicago contractor, died yesterday at
the home of his son, C. B. Hartung at Menasha, where he had been residing for
several years.
The body is to be brought to Manitowoc Thursday morning with services at 2 p.m.
from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home. Interment will be at Evergreen
cemetery.
The deceased was born in Germany in 1853 and accompanied his parents to this
country when a boy. They located at Two Rivers. In later years he came to this
city and operated a general store and saloon on Washington street.
In 1878 Mr. Hartung entered the contracting business and moved from here to Chicago
where he engaged in business. He was married in this city to Miss Julia Bean. She
died in 1924.
Survivors are a son, C. B. Hartung, Menasha, a daughter, Mrs. Roy Grimes, Hamilton,
Ont., and a sister, Mrs. John Stelzer of this city.
