Orville "Red" Hartwig, 84, passed away on Friday, April 16, 1999, at
Theda Clark Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1914 in Denmark,
Wis., the son of the late Edward Hartwig and Emma Schultz. On August 11,
1945, he married Isabel Bessert. She preceded him in death in November,
1990.
During his youth Hartwig was a Great Lakes Sailor, later he was a
merchant seaman in the South Pacific, active in World War II. He was
employed by Kimberly Clark for many years until his retirement in 1973.
He was an avid bowler, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah,
since 1958.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet (Gregory) Gajewski,
Menasha, and a son, John Hartwig, Neenah; three grandchildren, Morgan,
Elaine and Bethany Gajewski, all of Menasha; two sisters, Loretta
Madson, Egg Harbor, and Beulah Heebin, Seattle, Wash.
Red was preceded in death by two daughters Amy and Elizabeth, a brother,
Leland, a sister-in-law, Mary, two brothers-in-law, Robert Madson and
Tom Heebink.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at 11 a.m. at
Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah. Interment will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc. Family and friends will be received on Monday
evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nennah's (sic) Westgor Funeral Home, and
again on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the
service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the Bethel Lutheran School is
being established.
