MRS. AUG. HAUPT PIONEER HERE, DIES AT HOME
Resident of Manitowoc Since Her Birth,
Passes Away at 73—Husband and Five Children Survive
Mrs. August C. Haupt, 73, who with her husband celebrated their golden wedding
anniversary on February 6th last passed away this morning at five o’clock at
the family home, 819 York street. Funeral services will be held on Monday after-
noon at two o’clock from the German Lutheran church, 8th and Marshall streets
with Rev. Uetzman in charge.
The deceased has been a life long resident of Manitowoc having been born Elizabeth
Schmiedicke in this city Sept. 25, 1856. She received her education here in the
public schools of the city. She was married to August C. Haupt in 1880 and shortly
after their marriage the couple located on a farm in the town of Newton. There they
continued to live until eighteen years ago when they removed to this city to reside.

Mrs. Haupt was a home loving mother devoting her time to her household duties and
her children. She took great diversion in reading and keeping up with the events
of the day and was much interested in church work. She was a member of the Ladies
Aid Society of the First Evangelical Lutheran church. Shortly after she, with her
husband, observed fifty years of wedded life, began to fail but was able to be up
and around until two weeks ago when the infirmities of old age set in.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wm. Rusch of Route 2,
Valders, Mrs. Otto F. Weiss and Mrs. Wm. Kollath of this city and two sons, Elmer
and Ray Haupt of this city. Three sisters, Mrs. Henry Bremer and Mrs. Paulina Meyer
of this city and Mrs. George Heinemann of Chicago, two brothers, Herman and Ernst
Schmiedicke of this city, and nine grand children also survive.
